Espace Riopelle, Québec City’s newest architectural gem

In October 2026, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) will make cultural history with the opening of Espace Riopelle – Pavillon Michael Audain. Designed to stand in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings, the new home for the museum’s Jean Paul Riopelle permanent collection is an architectural triumph.

The exhibition traces Riopelle’s evolution and the scope of his work over half a century. At centre stage will be the artist’s monumental “Tribute to Rosa Luxemburg,” accompanied by an olfactory experience created by Chartier World LAB. The public will also be invited to take part in an immersive exhibition around the work of the renowned painter, engraver, and sculptor, and to rediscover the national collection of modern art in a new light.

MNBAQ visitors will have plenty to admire before the grand opening, including Hyperrealism: This Is Not a Body, an exhibition that explores the depiction of the human figure in sculpture from the 1970s to the present.

Surfs up! Aloha Surf opens in Québec City

Aloha Surf is a major new tourist attraction and recreation facility coming to Boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel in Québec City this summer. It will be Canada’s first indoor surfing facility with Flow Surf 2.0 technology, a stationary wave with adjustable water depth that stands to revolutionize the sport. With this technology, children as young as eight can learn to surf in safety, while experienced surfers can take on more powerful swells.

The Aloha Surf complex is a veritable recreation hub embodying a fully integrated vision of sports and entertainment. While year-round surfing is the star attraction, it is complemented by a high-performance gym, yoga and spinning classes, and post-workout recovery. There’s plenty of room for fun too, with an arcade area, retro skating, golf simulators, the Sport Radical boutique, and the California-inspired Aloha Sunset restaurant. A rooftop 18-hole mini-putt course and large panoramic terrace augment the experience. Reservations open shortly.
