L’endroit Caché launches casual café/bistro

L’endroit Caché, a fine dining favourite in Chibougamau, is reinventing itself by adding a more casual café/bistro, open Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lunch menu will change weekly and offer two choices, including a vegetarian and gluten-free option. Seating is limited, and reservations must be made a day ahead.

The restaurant’s signature experience remains a five-course blind tasting menu based on market availability and the chef's inspiration. It is served in a cosy, unpretentious atmosphere. Themed evenings are also held throughout the year. And L’endroit Caché caters custom lunch boxes for special events, serving up to 250 guests with flair to spare.

Aerial trail at Corporation Nibiischii

This summer marks a milestone for Corporation Nibiischii: the new Falaise trail will open in the Waconichi sector after four years in development, and in the wake of the challenging forest fires of 2023. This breathtaking 8 km aerial trail, which includes 2 km cantilevered directly onto the rock face and a suspension bridge overlooking Cliff Bay, immerses hikers in the boreal landscapes.

Conceived for lovers of the outdoors eager to get off the beaten path, this trail has all the right features: It’s one part adventure and one part contemplative experience steeped in an appreciation of the land and Cree culture. This major new attraction adds to the site’s many appealing attributes and helps position Lake Waconichi as one of the region’s unmissable summer destinations.

VäHumania: Travel for human connection

VäHumania is a one-of-a-kind network that helps travellers to explore and understand the region through authentic experiences and encounters with passionate individuals from the seven James Bay communities.  In 2025, VäHumania won the Tourism Excellence Award in the Innovation and Development category, network section.

The VäHumania concept posits human connection as the gateway to the land: the community invites visitors to share in their traditional knowledge and daily lives. There is a huge range of experiences available, from making glass mosaics to an industrial tour of BoreA Canada (to learn about the distillation process and the circular economy). Also on offer are walks in the boreal forest, clay bas-relief creation, painting workshops, and exploring the starry Nordic sky at a planetarium.

It’s a deeply human, authentic approach to telling the story of James Bay in a whole new way.

A new chapter for Hôtel Matag

Hôtel Matag in Matagami reopened in July 2025, after a 2022 fire. The recently renovated centrally located establishment is a welcoming place to kick back and relax – the perfect mix of comfort and conviviality.
With a great location near the Billy-Diamond Trail, the hotel is a regular stop for people from outside the region, including snowmobilers, hunters and fishermen, sports teams, and group tours.

Surrounded by vast boreal forests, the hotel is a warm and welcoming space for travellers to take a breather before continuing on to the next stretch of their journey – or extending their stay. The clean modern lines of its design reflect its accents on simplicity, accessibility, professionalism, and excellent service. Hôtel Matag is the perfect base for exploring Eeyou-Istchee James Bay.
