Club de golf Murray Bay turns 150!

The Murray Bay golf club celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. When it was founded in La Malbaie in 1876, it was the fourth-largest golf club in North America. Today, it is the third-oldest club in North America – and the oldest still occupying its original location. Former US President William Howard Taft, who was in the White House from 1909 to 1913, even served as club president from 1914 to 1925!

To highlight this milestone, a special program is planned for the summer that will include commemorative tournaments.

New gourmet spots in Baie-Saint-Paul and La Malbaie

The Charlevoix food scene is hopping, with a slew of openings and major projects.

In Baie-Saint-Paul, Les Faux Bergers is moving into the historic building of La Laiterie Charlevoix. The space previously occupied by the Migneron family of Charlevoix, made famous by the cheese of the same name, will now be home to a new restaurant run by Michelin-starred chef Hugue Dufour

Two exciting new spots are opening their doors on Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste. L’Accalmie is a “bistronomic” restaurant – think fine dining meets casual bistro – with surf and turf cuisine showcasing the local terroir and a carefully curated list of Québec wines, signature cocktails, and regional craft beers. Another newcomer is Nixtamal Charlevoix, whose Mexican specialties highlight local Charlevoix products.

In La Malbaie, La Crave will open at the Port de refuge de Cap-à-l’Aigle offering a family-friendly menu with accents of Canadian and Colombian cuisine. And in one more tasty piece of news, the Pains d’exclamation! bakery is reopening.

Managed by Tourisme Charlevoix since 2024, the Route des Saveurs has great anniversary programming planned for the entire year, including themed events, special edition gourmet products, and new tools to promote the flavour trail.

An eventful summer in La Malbaie

La Malbaie has a lively summer season in store. For the third consecutive year, the Loto-Québec Juste pour rire (Just for Laughs) comedy festival will be back in mid-August at the Hôtel-Casino de Charlevoix complex. Throughout the summer, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu will also host Feux et Chansons evenings, where an invited musician entertains guests outdoors with a blazing fire.

Building on the success of its winter edition, the Reine des Sentiers en VTT (ATV trail queens) event, organized by NordExpé, will be held from July 3 to 5. Then, from August 28 to 30, Vélo Charlevoix will present the first annual Festival Vélox. This cycling festival will feature gravel-enduro and road bike trails, workshops and talks, tastings, shows, and campfires for friendly gatherings.

For its second edition, taking place at the Pointe-au-Pic wharf from June 21 to October 13, Pointe-au-Pop will showcase local artisans at its pop-up boutique village built from converted shipping containers. Finally, Cité Mémoire Charlevoix is adding to its stunning multimedia experience with a sixth “immersive canvas” projection on the side of the Pointe-au-Pic church.
